About Minivid

What is Minivid?

Minivid is an iPhone app that compresses videos and frees up storage, entirely on the device. It shows how big a video will be before you compress it, and also finds large videos, near-duplicate and blurry photos, and Live Photos you can turn into stills.

Which iPhones and iOS versions does Minivid support?

Minivid runs on iOS 15.1 or later. Some extras need a newer iOS: Lock Screen widgets need iOS 16, the widget’s Shrink button iOS 17, and the Control Center control iOS 18.

Is Minivid free?

Yes, Minivid is free to download and the free tier is fully usable. It compresses videos up to 100 MB at 720p, cleans up duplicate, blurry and dark photos, turns Live Photos into stills, extracts audio, trims, replaces originals and sends via Zalo and Messenger. Pro removes the limits.

Privacy

Does Minivid upload my videos or photos?

No. Every video is read, compressed and written on your iPhone with the device’s own hardware encoder, and Minivid has no server that receives videos or photos. You can turn on airplane mode and compress a video to check.

What data does Minivid send off the device?

Two things. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, the device identifier Apple gives developers and your purchase history, so the app knows whether you have Pro. Since version 1.5.1, anonymous usage statistics go to Google Analytics for Firebase; you can turn them off in Minivid’s Settings › Privacy › “Share anonymous usage statistics”.

Does Minivid show ads or track me?

No. Minivid includes no advertising SDK, never asks to track you and is built without the advertising identifier (IDFA). Usage statistics are not linked to your identity.

Does Minivid work offline?

Yes. Compressing and cleaning up need no connection, including in airplane mode. Only buying or restoring Pro needs the network, and a video stored only in iCloud has to download to the iPhone first.

Compressing and sending

How much smaller will my video get?

It depends on the video and the settings, but 80–95% smaller is typical for phone footage. Minivid shows the estimated size before it starts, and the number updates as you change the preset, resolution or frame rate.

Will Minivid delete or overwrite my original video?

No. Minivid always writes a new file and leaves the original alone. The original is deleted only if you tap Replace original and confirm the iOS prompt; the small copy keeps the original’s date and place.

Which video formats does Minivid support?

Minivid accepts MP4 and MOV videos and outputs H.264 or HEVC (H.265). HEVC gives a smaller file at the same quality; H.264 plays on more devices.

Can Minivid compress a video to an exact size, like 25 MB?

Yes, with Pro. Name a limit such as 25, 50, 100 or 200 MB and Minivid picks the highest resolution that still fits under it, aiming slightly below the limit to leave headroom.

What does Send via… do, and does it sign in to Zalo or Gmail?

Send via… compresses a video to fit under the limit of the app you pick — Zalo, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, iMessage, Discord, Gmail, Outlook or email — then opens the iOS share sheet so you send it yourself. Minivid never signs in to or connects with any account. Zalo and Messenger at 720p are free; every other destination is Pro.

Storage and photos

I deleted or replaced videos. Why is my storage still full?

iOS keeps deleted photos and videos in Recently Deleted for 30 days, and they keep using space until then. Empty Recently Deleted in the Photos app to get the space back now; Minivid reminds you and can open Photos for you.

Does Minivid find duplicate photos?

Yes. It groups near-identical photos with the sharpest one marked Best, and a second tab collects blurred, dark and blown-out shots. Nothing is deleted until you confirm, and deleted photos go to Recently Deleted.

Is the private vault included in my iCloud backup?

No. The vault is encrypted on this iPhone and opens only with Face ID or your passcode, but it is not included in backups and does not move to a new phone. Export items back to Photos before you switch devices.

Pro and purchases

What does Minivid Pro add, and how much is it?

Pro removes every limit: any file size, 1080p and 4K output, compress to an exact size, Send via any app, batch compression, time-lapse, watermark, object eraser, an unlimited vault, HEVC, audio removal and frame-rate control. It costs $1.99 a month, $9.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $14.99 once for lifetime access.

How do I restore Pro on a new iPhone?

Open Minivid, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases while signed in to the Apple Account that bought Pro. It needs a connection.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the iPhone’s Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Minivid and tap Cancel. Cancellation is handled by the App Store, and Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
